Turkish TOBB Set for Damascus Visit, Backs Syria’s Recovery
At the Turkish-Arab Chamber of Commerce Board Meeting and Business Forum in Izmir, Hisarciklioglu highlighted the mounting global challenges affecting both peace and economic stability, pointing to regional turmoil: Israel's aggressive policies in Gaza and the region directly threaten peace and stability.
He added: "We are pleased to follow the normalization process in Syria.”
Detailing TOBB’s plans, he stated: “As TOBB, we will hopefully go to Damascus in three days. We will work on how we can support Syria's reconstruction and how we can revive the private sector and entrepreneurship."
Hisarciklioglu emphasized that the recent easing of economic sanctions on Syria by the European Union and the United States is expected to significantly aid the country’s economic recovery.
He also highlighted a positive trend in Türkiye’s economic ties with Arab nations, noting: "We are also pleased with the development of our trade relations with Arab countries in recent years."
Two decades ago, Türkiye’s exports to Arab countries totaled just $5 billion, representing 10% of national exports. As of 2024, that figure has surged past $50 billion, now accounting for 20%, he noted.
The forum at the Izmir Chamber of Commerce brought together high-level representatives, including TOBB President Rifat Hisarciklioglu, Arab Chambers Union President Samir Majoul, Secretary General Khaled Hanafy, various ambassadors, and over 100 business leaders from 15 Arab nations.
